Life After Divorce Therapy Group for Women

Divorce doesn’t just change your relationship status. It changes your identity, your routines, your confidence, and the way you see yourself in the world. Even if the decision was right, you may still feel lost, overwhelmed, or unsure of who you are outside of the relationship.

Many women join this group when they realize their friends and family care about them, but cannot fully understand what this transition feels like.

This group is a supportive, steady space for women in Richmond, VA and virtually throughout Virginia and Florida who are navigating the emotional, practical, and identity-shifting experience of separation or divorce.

Whether you’re weeks, months, or years out, it’s normal to feel tired, confused, lonely, or stuck. You do not have to hold all of this by yourself.

About the group

Life after divorce can feel like you’re rebuilding yourself from the inside out. You may be grieving the loss of the life you thought you were going to have, feeling confused about what comes next, or wondering how to trust yourself again.

This divorce recovery therapy group offers:

  • A place to slow down and notice what you’re actually feeling

  • Language for emotions you’ve been carrying silently

  • Support as you untangle guilt, people-pleasing, and old patterns

  • Tools for grounding, self-trust, and emotional regulation

  • Creative prompts that help you express what words can’t quite capture

No art experience is required. Just a willingness to show up exactly as you are.

Group Structure:

This is an ongoing therapy group offered in 12-week cycles.

  • Members commit to one cycle at a time

  • New participants join only at the start of a cycle, so the group can build trust and safety together

  • If the current cycle is underway, you can join the waitlist for the next cycle

Some members choose to continue into another cycle if they would like ongoing support.

What We Explore Together:

  • Grieving the loss of your relationship and identity

  • Rebuilding self-esteem and self-trust after separation

  • Understanding attachment patterns and relationship cycles

  • Navigating the fear of being single or starting over

  • Processing anger, sadness, loneliness, relief, and the in-between

  • Coping with co-parenting, shared responsibilities, and contact with an ex

  • Reconnecting with who you are—beyond roles, expectations, or survival mode

Through weekly art prompts, guided reflection, and community support, you’ll find space to process what you’ve lost while creating hope for what’s ahead.

By the end of a 12-week cycle, you’ll leave with:

✔ More confidence in your identity and the direction of your life

✔ Tools to manage grief, anxiety, anger, and overwhelm
✔ Support around boundaries, co-parenting, and emotional triggers
✔ Clarity around your relationship history and what you want moving forward
✔ Connection with others who truly understand this experience
✔ A renewed sense of self-worth, identity, and possibility.

What You’ll Gain

You might be wondering if this group is the right fit…

  • You might be thinking things like:

    • “My divorce was my choice. Am I still allowed to feel sad about it?”

    • “What if I’m not ready to date yet?”

    • “I feel both relief and grief at the same time. Is that normal?”

    • “Everyone else seems to be moving on faster than I am.”

    • “I’m tired of talking about this with friends who don’t understand.”

If any of these thoughts sound familiar, you’re not alone.

This group is designed for women who are still finding their footing after divorce and want a place to process, reflect, and reconnect with themselves.

Who This Group Is For:

This group is designed for women who are:

  • Going through separation or divorce

  • Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or emotionally exhausted

  • Struggling with co-parenting challenges

  • Questioning their identity outside the relationship

  • Wanting steady support rather than trying to “hold it all together” alone

  • Ready to heal old patterns and rebuild their lives with more self-trust

(This helps keep the group emotionally safe, grounded, and aligned with its purpose.)

  • Those seeking a drop-in or open-format support group

  • Anyone in immediate crisis

  • People who are in an acute crisis or who do not yet have a support system outside of group.
Group works best when you have another place to land between sessions. If things feel very fresh, raw, or overwhelming, 1:1 support may be a better starting point.

  • Individuals currently experiencing active domestic violence or safety concerns

  • Those needing legal guidance or weekly co-parenting advice

  • People who prefer traditional process-only therapy without creative work.
